South Side MEDiC Clinic
The South Side MEDiC Clinic was established in November of 1992 under the direction of Dr. Cindy Haq in response to medical student interest in more clinical volunteer opportunities. The UW Department of Family Medicine has provided substantial support and resources to help maintain the operation of the South Side MEDiC clinic from its inception to the present time. The clinic serves uninsured residents of a largely low income, racially and culturally diverse neighborhood in South Madison. In early 1996 the clinic moved to its new location at 2202 South Park Street (this space is generously provided by Access Community Health Center [ACHC] and South Madison Health and Family Center--Harambee). The clinic has several well-equipped exam rooms, a front desk area and waiting room. The majority of patients seen are adults without medical insurance (since children are eligible for public health insurance through BadgerCare). An increasing percentage of the patients seen speak only Spanish, although patients come from a variety of backgrounds. Patients are seen for acute medical problems.
